A2 - Patrixbourne Bearing Replacement
2023-2024
The A2 Patrixbourne Bearing Replacement Scheme was a project undertaken by a sister company of a Tier 1 Contractor in which we aided completion on both construction & post construction construction phases.
The project brief was to replace all 22 No. free bearings along with 2 No. guided bearings which supported the southern end of the A2 flyover above the town of Bridge, Canterbury. In order to complete these works the bridge needed to be hydraulically jacked up around 2.5mm which relieved the old bearings from the load. We then got to work on hand breaking out all 24 No. Bearings and replacing them with the 22 No. free bearings and 2 No. Guided bearings to restrict the bridge from lateral movements. Once these works were complete the bridge was de-jacked 2.5mm to sit on the newly installed bearings.
Throughout the Construction phases our engineer was on site to provide extremely accurate setting out +/- 1mm in some circumstances with old school setting out techniques which is what really made this project different... No room for an EDM! During the construction phases we were also providing ITP's, QA sheets and organising material testing to ensure the project met all aspects of the specification. Once construction works were completed, our engineer finalised As-Builts and completed the H&S Folder.
